چکیده

Aim: To compare wrist function by mean of DASH score at 12 weeks in distal radial fracture patients treated operatively (ORIF group) versus those non-operatively (CAST group). Methodology: The randomized controlled trial was conducted Indus Hospital Karachi, which is a tertiary care hospital from 1st January 2017 to 30th June and the follow up taken after recruitment last patient 96 were enrolled. Patients operative group with volar locking plate. Reduction stabilization done application 2.7mm titanium radius anatomically contoured implants. Non-operative Treatment Protocol that All complete six immobilization splint. One repeated manipulation if needed accepted first 3 weeks. Passive active finger motion starting encouraged. Formal physiotherapy this started 6 removal cast. In twelfth week, functional assessment examined physiotherapist or orthopaedic resident both Cast ORIF. Results: Thirty (31.3%) 66(68.8%) non-operative group. No significant difference found age, height, weight, BMI between groups (Mean: 42.7 vs 41.6 years, p=0.644; 156.5 156.4 cm, p=0.962, 61.0 59.5 kg, p=0.557, 24.9 24.5, p=0.395 respectively). Moreover, distribution gender, dominant hand, injured hand also similar (p=0.427, p=0.587, p= 0.673). be significantly lower as compared cast (median 17.5 28.8, p<0.0001, 16.6 27.9, p<0.0001). Conclusion: At plates produced better clinical outcomes treatment Cast. anatomical reduction more possible conserved operating group, but early mobilization achieved key achieving outcomes. Treatment of unstable distal radius fractures: non-invasive dynamic external fixator versus volar locking plate - functional and radiological outcome in a prospective case-controlled series.

INTRODUCTION Distal radius fracture (DRF) is a common injury and various treatment modalities including open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with volar locking plate are available. More recently, a non-invasive external fixator has been used. AIMS To prospectively compare the use of a non-invasive external fixator with early dynamisation for DRF against ORIF with volar locking plate co...

Inter- and intra-observer agreement of the AO classification for operatively treated distal radius fractures

The reproducibility of the AO classification for distal radius fractures remains a topic of debate. Previous studies showed variable reproducibility results. Important treatment decisions depend on correct classification, especially in comminuted, intra-articular fractures. Therefore, reliable reproducibility results need to be undisputedly determined. Hence, the study objective was to assess i...

The Effect of Ligament Injuries on Outcomes of Operatively Treated Distal Radius Fractures.

Various authors have documented wrist ligament injuries in patients with distal radius fractures (DRFs). We conducted a study to determine whether scapholunate interosseous ligament (SLIL), triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), or chondral injuries directly assessed with arthroscopy predict DRF outcomes. Forty-two patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation of DRFs were enro...

Outcomes of Operatively Treated Acute Knee Dislocations

Knee dislocation is a complex and rare injury often presenting in the context of high velocity trauma. The aim of this study is to establish the subjective outcomes of surgically treated knee dislocations. A total of 20 knees dislocations treated by open repair were reviewed. Their progress and outcomes were assessed by using a modified Lysholm score questionnaire. Data was obtained on patient ...

Operatively treated traumatic versus non-traumatic rotator cuff ruptures: A registry study

BACKGROUND Operative treatment of traumatic rotator cuff ruptures, i.e. ruptures with a predisposing traumatic event, is reported to yield superior results compared to operative treatment of non-traumatic, degenerative ruptures. AIM The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference of outcome, peroperative findings, and demographics after operative treatment of traumatic versus non-tra...
